(G) GrAssign - Parametric and Rectangular Graphs
Problems
1. x(t) = t + 5 y(t) = t2 -2 ≤ t ≤ 1
2. x(t) = t2 y(t) = t + 1 -1 ≤ t ≤ 2
3. x(t) = t2 - 1 y(t) = 2t -1 ≤ t ≤ 2
A. Convert the parametric equations (1-3) to rectangular equations and simplify them.
~ Record your work on the provided document:
~ You can use Notability to record your work on the above doc.
Before doing B and C, review the process explained in slide #5 "Parametric/Rectangular Graphs." Instructions are included below Two_Graphs_Desmos
Using the 3 problems above, complete B and C.
B. Record the following on the above document in Part A.
~ Write the parametric equations as ordered pairs.
Write as (x,y), keeping x and y in parametric form.
~ Include the rectangular equation you found in step A.
C. Using Desmos
~ Record the results of B (above) in Desmos, then graph each problem as a separate graph.
~ Make sure you highlight the parametric and rectangular graphs using different colors for each graph.
---------------------------
Follow the directions for D and E. (Use the 2 problems below.)
D. Using graph paper (do NOT use Desmos), complete the problems below.
Given the following parametric equations,
I. x(t) = 2 - t2 y(t) = t2 + 1 -2 ≤ t ≤ 2
II. x(t) = t2 - 3 y(t) = 2t - 3 -2 ≤ t ≤ 3
~ Complete the table on the document in Part D.
~ On graph paper, plot the table points, plot the points along with "t = value," sketch the parametric equation, and indicate the direction of the graph.
E. Convert the parametric equations for the above problem (D) to rectangular equations, then simplify.
~ Include your name on all graphs and paper.
~ Save as GrPara_Rect_LastName.
~ Point value: 25 pts
~ Upload all work and graphs to Google Classroom.
Include the following on the first page:
