Use Algebra to Simplify Trig Expressions
As you work with trig, you will probably be faced with simplifying a trig expression.
Simplifying these trig expressions won't be an issue if you remember the trig identities and know how to simplify algebraic expressions.
Example 1
Simplify cot θ/csc θ by rewriting each trig function in terms of sine and cosine functions.
~ We can rewrite cot θ using the Quotient Identity
~ We can rewrite csc θ using the Reciprocal Identity
Solution
Example 2
~ Numerator: We can find the factors using the difference of two squares.
~ Denominator: We can factor out the common factor of tan θ.
