Determining Limits - Activities
The activities below will reinforce the concepts you learned in the presentation. Work through these activities, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask for help.
Activity 1 - Determining Limits - Graphically
Using the given graph, answer the questions.
Activity 2 - Determining Limits - Tables
The "Matching Pairs" activity will match the x and f(x) values for the function at the upper left of this area.
Arrange (drag) the x values vertically (1-6); it will be easier to solve.
Use your calculator to find f(x) for each given x value. (Read the note below.)
Connect the f(x) value by dragging it to the values for x.
The x and f(x) connections will be horizontal.
Once you have connected all pairs, click the check mark to determine if your answers are correct.
Green - correct. Red - incorrect.
You can disconnect these by clicking the attached "tape" between x and f(x).
Calculator: y = lim(x->2) (x -2)/(x^2 - x - 2)
----------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: When generating the f(x) values for the table use the following method.
1. Graph the function, then while viewing the graph, press the TRACE button.
2. Type 1.9 (you will see that value next to X= at the bottom of the screen), then press the ENTER button.
3. The y-value will appear at the bottom of the screen along with the x-value you typed in.
