Solving Radical Equations
There are several types of radical equations.
Some are simple, with one radical expression, while some are difficult, with two radicals, which would lead to long and cumbersome math.
We will look at two examples. Make sure you have a solid understanding of how you should solve these.
Solving a Radical Equation with One Radical
The simplest way to solve this problem is to square both sides of the equation.
Remember: Always check to make sure the answer is a solution to the equation.
Solving a Radical Equation with Two Radicals
The following problem has two radicals and would be easier if one of the radicals were subtracted from both sides.
The result would lead to a binomial with a radical.
Of course, squaring both sides would help with the left side, but because the right side is a binomial, the result would be a trinomial that contains another radical.
Once simplified, square both sides again and solve for x.
Check your answer to determine if it is the solution to the equation.
