Modeling Linear Functions using Desmos
Linear Modeling and Predictions
The table at the left contains the number of hours spent studying for a science exam (x) and the final grade (y). Predict the exam grade of a student who studied for 6 hours.
~ Plot the data in Desmos to find the Linear Model Equation.
* Slope (m) is 6.089
* y-intercept (b) is 63.927
~ Plug the slope and y-intercept into the linear equation form.
* y = 6.089x + 63.927
~ To predict the exam grade of a student who studied for 6 hours, let x = 6
* When x = 6, y = 100.461
Complete the following activity
Activity - Linear Regression Matching
Using Desmos. Build a table, change domain and range as needed, using the best-fit regression model, write the linear best-fit equation, identify the correlation coefficient, and describe the correlation coefficient (none, weak, moderate, strong, positive, negative).
Finally, for all problems, predict the results when x = 15.
